Nice dog bed but could use some improvemnts

Nice dog bed but could use some improvemnts
I'll start this review by mentioning that I plan to use this dog bed indoors only. That will greatly effect the performance of any fabric dog bed. I'll also mention that my two dogs are not chewers. They are taught as puppies what they are allowed to have and what they are not. So chewing won't be an issue here. This dog bed was purchased to be used for travel, for staying in our tent while camping, staying in motels and in rental homes, with the idea of saving space in the car during travel. My border collies are 35 and 40 pounds. The Chuckit bed easily fits a dog of this size on it. I think it would accommodate a dog up to about 60 pounds. If your dog is way bigger than that, he likely will hang off over the edge.In my opinion, the fabric of this dog bed could be improved. The bottom fabric (the blue part) has a noisy, crinkly sound which is fine for my dogs, but if your dog is wiggy about noise, he may not like the crinkly sound under him when he moves. The fabric on the top holds dog hair like crazy. The hair sticks to it like Velcro. So if you want to keep this bed somewhat clean, you will need to use a lint brush on it now and then (or I used a dampened palm of my hand in swirls). I'm not sure why a dog bed company would choose such a fabric, as most dogs do shed. But it just is what it is and seems worth mentioning here. The dog bed won't hold it's shape well. If your dog is a nester, it will end up in a ball. It is nice and cushy though and maybe some dogs would prefer it that way. For extra cushioning, I also go a "Leisure Travel Camping Bed" here on Amazon, to put underneath this bed. That bed holds it's shape and will add extra warmth under this bed.The Chuckit dog bed easily folds up and stashes into the stuff sac included and becomes a manageable size which is nice. There are a number of one star reviews that complain about durability, but if you read those reviews carefully, they are cases where the dog bed is either being left outside or their dog has chewed the bed up. Sorry folks, but NO fabric dog bed will withstand an aggressive chewer OR the elements over time. So I just tossed reviews like that out in my head, as those are not realistic expectations of any fabric dog product. If your dog is trained to not chew and you want a nice travel bed for them, this could be a good option for you.

Okay, this is not the best bed available, the most glamorous or the most amazing bed out there,

But for the price point, this is fantastic

The bag is really more for travel maybe in certain ways this it would be great (don't know as I haven't traveled with it yet). It comes in a travel bag and the thing is petty compact. But the nice thing is this thing open up to reveal a pretty comfortable rest area for the dog.

But I ordered this item not for travel, but as an additional place for my dog to lay around, and for this purpose it works really well.

The bed is not think, again it is meant as something to lay on, not the ultra comfortable bed that you could buy. However, for the price point this is great. Totally washable and very useable. My dog took to it right away and like laying on it more than the other bed he has available.

This is a winner. The color scheme of blue and gray is okay (I would love to see some other colors).

Update May 2019. I bought another one of these Chuckit! beds. After using the originally purchased bed around the house, in the car, etc., I ended up using it as a crate pad for my Border Collie over the last year while in dog class. It fits in the medium crate well. I like that it goes up the sides a bit (see picture) and I can collapse the crate down with the pad inside. Directions say to machine wash warm, tumble dry low. I have washed my original bed a few times, but I used cold water in our front loading washer and hung it up using the loop to dry. The original pad has held up great. I bought the second pad to use around the house, in the car, hikes, walks, etc., like I did with the first pad. For me, this travel pet bed has been a great find. Light, packable, washable, and my dog likes it.

I originally purchased this bed in March of 2017 to use with clicker training as I wanted something light that I could easily take anywhere and this bed fits that need. I tried it gray side up and blue side up. The gray side definitely has a warmer feel to the touch. The blue side will make a rustling sound when rubbed, but it has not been a problem for us. I like the little loop tab on the bed that can be used to hang the bed on a hook to dry if it gets damp and I like that one can put the bed in the stuff bag to minimize the packing space needed when traveling. The bed is not thick, but it is just fine for using on the floor, ground, or in the vehicles. This bed is good for hiking, too. If you get in a windy situation, you can use a tent peg or something similar to stake the bed down using the loop. I have not washed this bed and if the need arises, I hope it will wash well because I really like it! I would definitely buy again.

I bought this bed to use as a mobile mat for my dog when we're doing things like attending training classes or events, so she has a spot where she can settle in as her little quiet and calm zone when we're trying to work on something. She's been surprisingly eager to jump onto it when told to go to her mat, and she settles in really easily like it's comfortable for her, so I'm really happy with it. It's a lot thicker and more plush than I expected... kind of like a thick comforter.

This bed is constructed very much like a little sleeping bag... it's got different material on each side, one like the inside of a sleeping bag and one like the outside. (The shinier side will be good for summer when the weather heats up.) It's also machine washable, which is a big deal for dog gear since it gets dirty so quick, and it's got a loop sewn in so you can hang it to dry if you want, which is nice (especially if you're camping and air drying is all you've got!). Even though I own some other Chuckit stuff and know it to be durable and well made, I honestly wasn't expecting this bed to be as great as it is... the travel dog beds I'd seen in my local pet stores were selling for 2-3x as much, so I thought this one might not last terribly long. I'm very happy to have been wrong.... I'd buy another of these in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't use it as an everyday bed in my house (luckily my dog already has a ridiculous bolstered orthopedic foam bed at home, not to mention all of our human furniture :D) but for travel it's pretty terrific. My dog's on the medium to large side (about 55-60 pounds), and this bed is just the right size for her... she'd even have room for a friend or two, if I had any other smaller dogs. It comes with a little stuff sack, and it's easy to get the bed back into it; just fold the bed in half the long way, and then roll it like a sleeping bag, then slide the bag on over the end. The sack also has a flap on top to keep dust and dirt out, and a nice drawstring to shut it pretty tight, so I can throw it in my trunk with the rest of my dog gear and not worry about it too much. The bed has enough padding that the stuffed sack is a little bulky... I don't know that I'd use this if I was backpacking in somewhere and needed to carry it in (but let's be real, my dog insists on sleeping on me and doesn't need her own bed most of the time anyway :D), but I'm planning to keep using it in training classes and just keep it in my car for anytime we might need it. I'm sure it'll get a lot of use.

I cannot recommend this enough! It's the best thing I've ever bought for my dog. I have a 30lb corgi and I bought it to take on vacations, so she'd had somewhere comfortable to sleep. I wasn't sure if she'd like it at first but she took to it right away and I frequently see her lying on it. It's so easy to roll up and put in the bag, the handle is comfortable, the blue color is beautiful, the bag doesn't take up too much room in the trunk of our car, and so far, it's held up really well against her nails (it's also really soft for humans to lay on). One thing I think helps, is that I keep it laid out at home so it has a familiar sent and feel when we take it on trips or I take it to the office. It's not super, super thick but it's a smidge thicker than a typical sleeping bag, so it makes for a comfy dog bed. I highly recommend it, especially if you want to teach your dog place and have them be able to go to "place" no matter where you are.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 2, 2019
I would say this sleeping mat would suit up to a medium sized bread dog, such as a Boarder Collie or a rather large Shetland Sheepdog, in particular if they stretch out when sleeping.

This bed is very compact for the size and plushness. You will need to shake and fluff it once you’ve taken it out, just like you would do with a sleeping mat.

My dog likes it when I was on holiday with her and she has slept and rested on it. It’s great when paired with a blanket when it gets cold or used as a pillow.

The bottom is very easy to wipe clean if it’s dirty.

It comes with a bag which is a huge plus as you can nearly store it away when travelling. It packs a little bit than a sleeping bag so do keep that in mind. The bag is also large enough to comfortable slip the sleeping mat inside it.
